gnition of the strong agriculture tradition in Kansas and the role the agriculture industry plays in the Kansas economy. Among the festivities, as a part of celebrating yesterday’s National Ag Day, Governor Brownback honored three Kansas family farms as they celebrate their sesquicentennial year. Kansas has a strong agricultural tradition that predates its statehood, and agriculture continues to be a significant contributor to the state’s economic well-being.
Here are a few quick facts on Kansas’ agricultural impact on the economy!
Kansas is a leader in wheat, grain sorghum and beef production, and the state ranks sixth in farm product exports, which were valued at $5.9 billion in 2008.
- One Kansas farmer can feed 155 per year
- Kansas is home to 65,500 family farms!
- Kansas families farm 46 million acres across the state
- Cash receipts for farm marketings were valued at nearly $14 billion in 2008.
